Gulshan is married to Sharif Alamgir Hossain, who in the early part of his career was enlisted as an officer of the Bangladesh Army in the first Service Commission Batch (1974) post the Independence of Bangladesh. Nevertheless, after a very brief stint with the force, he left it voluntarily to join Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and after spending more than 35 years with the national carrier, he retired as a Senior Flight Engineer. However, interestingly, almost all of his immediate family members served extensively in the Bangladesh Armed Forces in various high ranking positions of command.

Gulshan has three children. Her daughter, Dr. Sarah Khan, is a Yale University alumna and now based in Minnesota, USA working as a Senior Consultant for Optum, an affiliate of United Health Group – a Fortune 500 company. Her eldest son, Mohammed Imtiaz Hossain, is an alumnus of the prestigious Imperial College London and worked with top-tier players of the financial services industry of London, UK such as Deutsche Bank, PwC and Deloitte. He is now pursuing a career as an entrepreneur, running Jisrip Pte Limited, a Singapore based Telco, as its COO, while also serving as the Adviser to the Board of Directors of Three Angle Marine Limited, a leading shipbuilding company in Bangladesh possessing the largest shipyard in the country with international class certification and state of the art facilities. Her youngest son, Shahriar Hossain, an alumnus of RMIT, is now based in Melbourne and pursuing his career as a Senior Manager at Australia’s #1 marketing services company, Sensis.
